A little help for your little house
Good questions.
Happy making.
From your first design to your first clay house. Here are the answers to the things makers ask along the way.
Getting started
What is Little House?
Little House is Craft Punk’s browser-based studio for designing 3D-printable tools for handmade clay houses. Choose a house, set its size, add decoration, and download stamps for the walls and roof plus a cutter for the base.
Print the tools, press them into clay, then trim and assemble the panels by hand.
Do I need a 3D printer?
You can design and preview a house without a printer. To make the physical tools, you’ll need access to a 3D printer and a slicer that can open 3MF files. Craft Punk provides digital design tools and downloads; physical tools are not shipped with a subscription.
Can I try it for free?
Yes. You can design without signing in and try two guest 3MF exports per browser. Exporting one tool or a complete tool set each counts as one export. After that, create a free account or sign in to keep exporting for personal use. No payment is required.
Saving a project does not use your guest export allowance. Temporary rate limits may apply to protect the service.
Where should I start?
Choose a house preset, set your dimensions, and try a built-in ornament. Use Clay model to see the assembled house and Stamp or Panel set to inspect the printable tools.
The illustrated making guide walks through printing, pressing, trimming, joining, and finishing.
Designing & saving
Can I use my own artwork?
Maker and Commercial Custom include custom PNG, JPG, and self-contained SVG textures. Simple, bold artwork works best. Dark areas become raised stamp relief and press recessed marks into clay; use Invert light & dark to reverse the effect.
SVGs must not contain scripts, external resources, or embedded images. Only upload artwork you own or have permission to use.
Can I move the windows and doors?
Maker, Commercial, and Commercial Custom include advanced controls and custom windows and doors. Use the Wall editor to position openings, or enter exact measurements in the panel inspector. Each panel supports up to eight windows and doors combined.
When you change house dimensions, the studio fits openings to the available space. Overlapping or out-of-bounds custom edits need to be corrected before the affected panel can be exported.
How do I save or move my design?
Your working design saves automatically in the same browser on the same device. For a portable backup, choose Save project to download a .clayhouse file with your settings and textures. Choose Open project to reopen it later or on another device.
Browser drafts are not a cloud backup. Save a project before clearing browser data or resetting your design. All plans can save projects; using paid features in a reopened project requires a plan that includes them.
What are PNG templates for?
Maker and Commercial Custom can download a ZIP of panel layout images and dimension guides. Use a layout as a guide layer in your image editor, remove the colored guide before saving your artwork, then import the finished image using Fit panel canvas.
Templates include 300-DPI size information. If printing on paper, select 100% actual size and check the one-inch calibration bar.
Printing & working with clay
What files do I download?
A single-tool export downloads a 3MF file in millimetres. Export tools downloads a ZIP containing the full 3MF tool set and a .clayhouse project copy. Unzip the download, then open the 3MF in your slicer.
Print at 100% scale. Place wall and roof stamps with the flat backing down and the texture facing up. Print the base cutter with its wide grip down and cutting edge up.
Do the stamps cut through the clay?
Wall and roof stamps press decoration and mark the outline. Their perimeter is a trimming guide, so cut those panels out by hand after stamping. The separate, open-center base cutter is designed to cut all the way through the clay.
Does the preview account for firing shrinkage?
No. Dimensions describe nominal wet-clay sizes. The assembled preview includes the base and roof, but does not simulate firing shrinkage or finished roof joints.
Use your clay’s measured shrinkage to choose a starting size if the final dimensions matter. Trial-fit the panels and finish roof peaks and angled joints by hand.
Why is my export unavailable?
Check the message above the preview first. Openings may overlap, a panel may be too small, or a setting may require a different plan. Valid panels can still be exported individually; a complete set requires every panel to be valid.
If you’ve used your two guest exports, sign in for free. If a temporary download limit appears, wait for the time shown before trying again.
Why is there a logo on the back of my stamp?
Wall and roof stamps include a recessed Craft Punk maker mark on the back. Small stamps use a smaller logo or text. Commercial and Commercial Custom let you substitute your own logo and short maker name. The base cutter is unmarked.
Use Show back in the stamp preview to check the mark. If there isn’t room, enlarge the panel or reduce its openings.
Will every design print and release perfectly?
Results depend on your artwork, dimensions, printer, settings, and clay. Fine lines may need to be enlarged, and you may need to adjust relief or clay thickness. Test one tool and a small piece of clay before printing a full set or making a production batch.
Plans & permissions
Which plan do I need?
- Free: basic design tools and exports for personal use.
- Maker: sell finished clay pieces, use advanced controls, upload custom textures, and download PNG templates.
- Commercial: sell physical tools and finished pieces, use advanced controls, and add your own maker mark.
- Commercial Custom: all Commercial features, plus custom textures and PNG templates.
Open Plans & account in the studio for current prices and billing options. Custom textures are included in Maker and Commercial Custom; the Commercial plan does not include them.
Can I sell the clay houses or printed tools I make?
Maker, Commercial, and Commercial Custom allow sales of finished clay or ceramic pieces. Selling the generated physical stamps and cutters requires Commercial or Commercial Custom. Free exports are for personal, non-commercial use.
You still need the appropriate rights to any artwork you upload. See the plan licenses in our Terms of Service.
Can I sell or share the digital files?
No plan permits selling or redistributing generated digital files, including 3MF tools, template downloads, and generated project files. Keep project copies for your own use and backups. Permission to sell physical pieces or tools does not include permission to distribute their digital files.
Account & support
How do I manage or cancel my subscription?
Open Plans & account, sign in, and choose Manage account to review subscription and billing options. Check the effective date shown when changing or canceling your plan.
Paid features follow your current subscription access. If cancellation takes effect at the end of a paid period, those features remain available until then. After paid access ends, you can use Free features. If you cannot access billing controls, email will@craftpunk.xyz for help.
Are subscriptions refundable?
No. Subscription payments are non-refundable, including partial billing periods or unused time, except where a refund is required by applicable law. Cancel before your next renewal to avoid future charges.
If you believe a charge is incorrect, email will@craftpunk.xyz with your account email, the charge date, and a description of the issue. Please do not send passwords or full payment-card details.
What happens to my information and artwork?
Artwork is processed by the server for uploads and exports and is not stored there. Saved project files and browser drafts may contain your artwork. Account, payment, and other personal information are covered by our Privacy Policy.
Using Craft Punk does not transfer ownership of your independently created artwork to us.
